PEO Video on Demand

PEO TV allows subscribers to watch any pre-loaded (i.e. stored in the servers) movies at any time. Subscribers have a control as to select when and what they want to watch. While watching the program customers can use trick play (pause, rewind and forward). When playing VOD or TSTV, system supports Trick play at different speeds. The speed can be 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x and 32x. The time shift facility is provided only for certain selected channels. The PEOTV VoD Store currently has movies, Tele-dramas, Documentary and Music Videos. Current PEO TV VoD menu categorized as English (Movie, Documentary), Sinhala (Movie, Tele-dramas, Documentary), Music ( C music and M Entertainment ) and Government Film unit.



Hotlist gives the list of popular VoDs as new arrival list newly arrive VoD and End soon lists movable VoD. This menu gives searching function by cast and by title. The subscriber can search for a VOD by movie name, actor name and director name and also to browse the VOD listing by category (genres).Play list gives details about ordered VoD and it gives a list of viewed VoD.
Upon selecting a VOD movie on EPG page, the subscriber can read the synopsis of movie and watch preview the VOD trailer. Thus based on this introduction the subscriber can easily decide if he/she likes to purchase the VOD movie. In PEO TV system, Bookmark is used to memorize VOD break point. The viewer can bookmark the movie when ever he want and do something else. When he comes back later he can continue from where he bookmarked the movie. The bookmark features a very convenient way for subscriber to watch VOD movies.

When a VOD is being played, a progress bar along and buttons for pause, play, rewind and forward are being displayed. This progress bar is presented to subscriber indicating the total length of VOD time and current watching time (elapsed time of watching). The system support Pay per view for single VOD. The subscriber will be given the VOD price and the option for him to choose payments or not watching this movie, once he choose to pay, the system will immediately charge the bill, then he will be allowed to watch this VOD.

PEO re-tells the Island's story

Sri Lanka Telecom VisionCom, together with Government Film Unit (GFU) proudly launches "Lak Roo" a new television channel bringing local television viewers a totally new experience.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday inaugurated the transmission of Lak Roo television channel conducted by the Department of Information during the ceremony to felicitate veteran film maker Dr. Lester James Peries who celebrated his 90th birthday yesterday.


The GFU was born with Ceylon's independence on Feb 4 1948.The GFU's first production was Independence Returns to Ceylon . It was shown at Temple Trees in 1948.The Government Film Unit, celebrating its 60th year, intends to channel such valuable resources to the public over “Lak Ru”, to latest television channel. This rare collection treasures works of Italian maestro Julio Petroni , renowned British artiste Ralphkin, and legendary Dr. Lester James Peiris.With many contributions from such legendary film producers, Government Film Unit possesses a diverse collection of documentaries of global repute and many popular films of yesterday.


The rare collection boast more than 24 international awards won in Berlin, London and other international film festivals. However, many local viewers are yet in experience such great cinematic adventures and the Government Film Unit hopes to telecast the collection over “Lak Ru” for their benefit.

“Lak Ru” can be viewed via 48th channel of SLT Visioncom’s Peo TV network round the clock.Yet every country in the world has jealously guarded its heritage of precious black and white news and documentary footage . With the advent of the PEO TV's vision that our film archives will re-tell the island's story.
